Releasing their newest TGA-approved skincare formula, featuring powerful Tranexamic Acid, clinically proven to combat discoloration.
SkinCeuticals is excited to announce the launch of the Discoloration Defense Serum in Australia, following a change to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulations around Tranexamic Acid.
The cutting-edge dark spot corrector is formulated with a potent blend of ingredients to target pigmentation and improve overall skin radiance. The innovative formula includes 3% tranexamic acid which helps reduce the appearance of dark spots and discolouration by inhibiting the activity of melanocytes, which are responsible for producing melanin.
In a 12-week scientific study, Discoloration Defense was found to visibly reduce hyperpigmentation and improve skin tone evenness by up to 59%. It not only targets discolouration, including hard-to-treat dark spots, but also helps prevent their recurrence without irritating the skin.

In addition to tranexamic acid, the formula features a combination of other effective ingredients:
- 1% Kojic Acid – to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the production of melanin.
- 5% Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) – to help visibly fade hyperpigmentation, strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier, and regulate excess sebum production.
- 5% HEPES (Sulfonic Acid) – a mild chemical exfoliant and buffering agent that helps to stabilise the skin’s pH levels and promote healthy skin turnover.

Dr Tania Romano, Head of Medical and Education at SkinCeuticals, says Tranexamic Acid is a truly transformative ingredient the brand is excited to offer to Australians.
“After more than two and a half years of collaboration with the L’Oréal local and international scientific and regulatory teams, SkinCeuticals Australia has successfully amended the TGA Scheduling and Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons (SUSMP) guidelines, allowing tranexamic acid to be reclassified from a schedule 4 ingredient to a permitted ingredient in Australia.
This regulatory milestone enables SkinCeuticals to legally offer Discoloration Defense to Australian consumers, making it the first product from the brand to feature this powerful ingredient in the Australian market”.
