MONO Skincare has created the world’s first dissolvable skincare tablets.
Sustainability has been a hot topic in the skincare industry for years now but it’s been a while since we’ve seen anything out of the ordinary. That is until the launch of MONO Skincare.
Together with a team of dermatologists in a Belgium laboratory, MONO Skincare have created the world’s first skincare tablet that can be dissolved in water in a forever refillable bottle.
They’ve patented eight different tablet formulas including cleanser, moisturiser, toner, a night serum and even hand and body products. Once you’ve bought the refillable bottle once, all you have to do is fill it with water, drop in the tablet and you have a sustainable solution to excessive packaging waste.
Founder, Laurie Mias, says inspiration for the brand came from the world around her and the wastefulness of her own routine.
“I was sick of overconsumption of single-use plastic. I could not believe that even my most expensive skincare still came in single-use plastic containers wrapped in a box itself wrapped in a plastic film,” says Laurie.
“Currently I live on the beach in a small village in South lantau Island, Hong Kong, and I used to travel a lot to Bali for work. The plastic pollution is just as critical over there too, but you don’t need to live on a beach to realise that plastic is everywhere.
“So, I thought I had to do something to show other ways of consuming beauty were possible for the same result on your skin, if not a much better one.”
MONO Skincare has been years in the making.
Things were never going to be easy for an idea as trailblazing as MONO Skincare so the brand has been in the works for some years.
“The formulations took a very long time because it had to be in a tablet form which had never been done before. And, it had to be 100% natural and 100% Bio,” shares Laurie.
“Luckily I found a lab in Belgium that specialises in bio skincare and they have been amazing! Step by step we formulated all the products and I must say, the very first batch was already beyond expectations!”
As for the formula itself, this innovative idea is actually quite simple on paper.
“On average, 80-90% of a cosmetic product is just water. So, we extracted the water out to create a hyper-concentrated tablet of active ingredients that are 100% natural and very robust.”
MONO Skincare’s hero ingredients are pre and probiotics including:
- Inutec H25P: a highly purified inulin which has the unique property to form a smooth and pleasant film on the skin
- preBIULIN™ AGA : a prebiotic super moisturiser. It supports the skin microbiota to reduce ageing and counteracts the damaging effect of preservatives on the skin within 1 hour. It hydrates 50% faster, 20% more intensively and 70% longer compared to hyaluronic acid.
- Allaintoin: has soothing, moisturising and healing properties.
Laurie’s childhood spent on the Mediterranean Sea in the South of France has also been a big influence on the MONO Skincare experience.
“My family have had perfume shops for as long as I can remember so I knew what would make a great product and that was a feeling and a scent I wanted to recreate.
“The tangerine, the white flowers, the big solid soap that my grandma used to do the laundry; it’s the feeling of clean and breathing skin with a natural glow and the scent of the Mediterranean garden from my childhood.”
With the exciting launch of MONO Skincare and its revolutionary sustainable system, Laurie says it’s just the beginning of the brand’s journey and she has high hopes for the future.
“I hope it will become the norm for skincare, personal hygiene and beyond [to be sustainable]. The single use plastic phenomenon in beauty has to stop!”
