Step 1: Water Works
The pressurised air in a plane’s cabin can leave skin dry and dehydrated through moisture evaporation, particularly if your skin is already dry. Increase your water intake several days before a flight to ensure you’re well hydrated inside and out when you board. Prevention is always better than cure.
Once in the air, try to avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks as these only further dehydrate the skin. Choose pure water and herbal teas instead. This also leads to the great exercise of getting up and down to the bathroom – perfect for stretching your legs!
Step 2: Carry On
Take a carry-on bag with miniature bottles of cleanser, refreshing toner spray, moisturiser etc. These can then be used when you’re away – no need for an extra bulky toiletries bag. Choose refillable bottles in a clear pack that comply with the laws for liquids on international flights. Depending on how long you’re away she you can always top up with full-sized bottles from your checked luggage. The Gaia Skin+Body Collection of 5 x 50ml is ideal for this.
Step 3: Spray Stress Away
The stresses of jetlag and lack of sleep can send your hormones a little haywire and contribute to breakouts or blotchiness. To cool, soothe and hydrate skin inflight, take a leaf out of the Rex Airlines flight attendants’ book and spritz on a natural floral water tonic. Preferably choose something containing calendula and/or green tea. Organic green tea and organic calendula extracts soothe, detoxify and tone while balancing, softening and refreshing skin.
Step 4: Wipe The Slate Clean
To keep skin clean, makeup smudges to a minimum and excess oil at bay, never leave home without trusty travel wipes. They’re suitable to use on face, hands – everywhere – to keep you staying fresh. But be warned – these will be popular with other travellers so be prepared for requests to share a spare. Try Gaia Natural Baby Bamboo Baby Wipes.
Step 5: Snore and Restore
Get as much shut-eye as you can on board, as this helps skin restore and repair itself naturally. Pop on my eye mask, and listen to a meditation track to help skin do its best work.
