We caught up with Sara Lavis, owner and founder of Skin Collective, who is the first clinic to offer the exclusive treatment in Australia.
The LYMA Laser surged in popularity in the U.S mid last year, and when we first heard about it, we were curious to understand its engineering and design to compare with the lasers that we already know in dermatology and cosmetic practice.
Distinguished by its 500 mW of clinic-grade cosmetic laser power, LYMA represents a significant technological breakthrough in non-invasive skin treatments. It claims a 100x biological effect in the dermis, suggesting a deep and comprehensive impact on skin health, with its Low Level Laser & Near Infra-Red technology that aims to treat various skin concerns, including wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, and redness, with a focus on efficacy and safety. Its suitability for all skin types marks a significant step forward in making advanced skincare accessible to a broader audience.
The two LYMA models
LYMA has released two models of their laser device: the original LYMA Laser and the LYMA Laser Pro. Both models deliver 500 mW of clinic-grade laser power to penetrate the skin deeply, targeting both the dermis and muscle tissue to address aging, wrinkles, pigmentation, and scarring.
The original LYMA Laser is designed for versatility and ease of use, making advanced skin treatments accessible for at-home use without professional intervention. It focuses on reversing signs of ageing and improving skin texture.
The LYMA Laser Pro builds on this foundation with additional features that enhance user experience and treatment efficacy. These may include better ergonomic design, precise targeting capabilities, and customisable settings, offering a premium experience that approaches more professional clinic treatments.
The difference between the two in short? The Pro is simply larger, faster, and more equipped for a professional setting.
We speak to Sara Lavis RN, who is the Owner and Founder of Skin Collective in Perth, to learn more about the treatment and how she has found it to perform clinically.
How is the LYMA Laser incorporated into your clinic versus other lasers, considering it’s also a handheld device?
At Skin Collective, clients can experience the Lyma Laser PRO in a facial with additional neolifting techniques and specialised Lyma Skincare for an instant lift and glow. The Lyma Laser PRO has unrivalled biological power, penetrating up to 10cm into the body, repairing as it goes. We also use this technology with a multiple modality treatment approach, combining with treatments such as bio-healer Rejuran, clinical peels and our microcurrent device, the Myolift MD.
Furthermore, the Lyma Laser PRO itself being a unique patented lens technology, brings versatility in a clinical setting as it can be used on any Fitzpatrick skin type, and it can be combined with many other in-clinic treatment modalities to speed up a desired skin result endpoint. Being a zero-downtime laser and a hand-held device that stimulates a genetic switch that halts the ageing process, it has been a perfect addition to our treatment list.
What led you to introduce LYMA to Skin Collective?
With a background in Emergency Nursing, a sizable part of my career has been in an environment that focuses on disease process, rather than prevention, and as the skin is just another organ, I’ve seen first-hand that it needs to be nurtured in the same way to mitigate disease.
Lyma Life is one of the first Welltech companies committed to delivering innovations that are unequivocally backed by scientific evidence. The Lyma Laser PRO is one of their three products to treat both signs and root cause of skin ageing, which to me is the future of aesthetic medicine.
Watch this space at Skin Collective – It’s a very exciting time as we are about to go even deeper into skin profiling and epigenetics using DNA testing for even more personalised treatment plans for our clients.
How have results been with clients? Can you share which skin conditions you’ve seen the most noticeable impact on?
In clinic, we have noticed the most significant impact using it on skin affected by inflammation which captures a huge array skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and diffuse redness, to name a few.
Being that skin inflammation is a sign of an immune response in the body, it is important to address this for any long-term resolution to skin conditions, and there are very few non-invasive treatments tailored to do so, especially that can be used on any Fitzpatrick skin type.
In addition, an area that I can myself attest to is its effects on skin elasticity – the anti-ageing results have been visibly noticeable and extremely promising. I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin’s overall texture, as well as an improvement of jowls and jawline sculpting. This was after using the Lyma Laser PRO daily for 30-days to test its potential first-hand in an intensive treatment setting, as I really wanted to see if this product was just as effective as the global hype has suggested.
