Cosmetic physician and Founder of Advanced Cosmetic Medicine Dr Rahma Targett shares with SPA+CLINIC her advice on New Year’s resolutions for businesses.
Known as an expert in her field of cosmetic medicine, Dr Rahma Targett began her training 20 years ago within working for the United Nations as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and whilst she did gain valuable insight as a practitioner working in war-torn countries, she had a profound passion for medical aesthetics. Fast forward to 2016, Dr Targett then transitioned to open her own private aesthetic medicine in Adelaide – Advanced Cosmetic Medicine.
Dr Targett’s approach to her business is with a meticulous eye-for-detail, with a high standard of professionalism delivered at all times, with a delightful and tailored approach. Her development of her business has created a significant reputation within her field, both personally and professionally.
SPA+CLINIC sat down with Dr Targett to discuss what her 5 main resolutions are for businesses for the New Year and moving forward.
Prioritise my own work/life balance
As a business owner myself, I think other business owners would agree sometimes this is easier said than done. I have already started thinking about the conscious decisions I can make next year to ensure I have more time and space for things which are important to me. Being able to choose when I take time off work is definitely a privilege, but I am at a point professionally where I have built a strong team I trust, that can manage the clinic without me there from time-to-time. This is something I have definitely worked towards over the past six years.
Provide my team with every opportunity to learn and upskill
Providing my staff with professional development opportunities to learn about new cosmetic treatments and new cosmetic technology is crucial to my investment in them as my employees.
Seeing them get excited by new treatment offerings, learn new skills and increase their industry knowledge in our group training environments boosts the morale which contributes to an overall more positive company culture, which in return assists with staff retention. It’s a win-win for everyone and in an industry which always has new technology and machines to learn about, keeping my team at the forefront of what is new is essential.
Set time aside to connect with other cosmetic physicians in my community on a regular basis
This has only recently come to my attention as something I want to do more next year. In any line of work, those who are in the same industry as you are the ones that truly understand the challenges wihin this field. Yes, you can speak to family or friends about work, but nothing quite reasonates when you are sharing with someone else in the same line of work.
Refine my clinic’s offerings – and focus on the treatments that I genuinely love doing
My love for cosmetic medicine is why I initially opened Advanced Cosmetic Medicine in 2016. Although I will always continue to educate myself about what is new in cosmetic medicine, I have learnt that instead of trying to offer absolutely “everything” (because there is always something new to offer your patients in this industry), I have found our success comes from having a refined offering and specialising in select treatments.
This really helps you become the best at what you offer and deliver the best results for your patients. Plus, if I am my own boss I am in the fortunate position to now choose the type of work I take on – so I want to continue loving what I do!
Attend cosmetic conferences worldwide to learn the latest technologies and techniques from different experts around the globe
I am definitely overdue for an international work conference! Although we do have many amazing cosmetic conferences here in Australia, I do miss heading overseas to learn about new technologies and connect with other experts from all over the world. Overseas conferences are on another level, so this is something I am hoping to be a part of next year.
