When was the last time you checked the pulse of consumerism? Could ‘Newism’, ‘Micro-niching’, ‘Sympathetic Pricing’ and ‘Mychiatry’ spark exciting new potential opportunities for your business? What changes do you need to make in a world of constant improvement, upgrade and iteration, and where consumers expect this as a matter of course?
From October 26-28 at Melbourne’s five-star Langham Hotel, the 2014 ASpa conference will offer you, as a delegate, a wealth of consumer-facing trends and innovations to keep your spa business relevant.
Spa industry professionals from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and neighbouring Pacific islands attend the ASpa Conference and Expo to enhance their knowledge and to gain a competitive edge in their marketplace.
It is attended every year by a wide cross section of the industry including spa, salon and retreat owners, managers, therapists, suppliers, educational institutions, students and service providers as well as associated businesses in the spa, health and wellness industry, tourism, hospitality and selected media. With two days of educational sessions covering tourism, business strategy, sustainability, management and global spa industry trends, you will be motivated and inspired towards greater success and innovation.
The goal is to empower you, provide an educational forum and develop a strong spa network, so you will leave inspired and motivated to take positive action.
Charles Davidson
This year’s conference theme is Global Spa and Wellness – Inspiration, Wisdom and Practice. To support one of this year’s key trends ‘Springs’, ASpa’s vice president Charles Davidson will be hosting a thermal springs forum on Tuesday October 28, with key influential, international speakers in attendance.
Topics will include medical-based thermal healing models in Europe, hot springs and Maori culture, hot springs and Aboriginal culture, global best practice in the hot springs industry (a presentation on current research), opportunities inspired by evidence based research, geothermal investment opportunities in Rotorua and Hanmer Springs and hot springs of Australia.
The ASpa Conference will also include hot topic speakers and seminars on the crucial aspects of successful spa and wellness businesses such as marketing, retail, digital and social media, wellness tourism, leadership and more.
Keynote speakers include:
Dr Richard Miller, who will be discussing Innovative Healing. Dr Miller is founder and CEO of Wilbur Hot Springs Health Maintenance Organisation. He began the present Wilbur Hot Springs Sanctuary for the Self in northern California in 1972, combining the safety and security of the pristine Wilbur Springs environment with a modern mind-body health philosophy emphasising dignity and respect for all.
He also revitalised the ancient healing method the Greeks called balneology – the science of the therapeutic use of natural hot mineral waters.
As the founder of the internationally acclaimed Cokenders Alcohol and Drug Program, Dr Miller integrated his techniques of humanistic psychology and psycho-physical fitness training with social model rehabilitation.
During the 1980s, he helped detoxify more than 1500 people at Wilbur Hot Springs. Not one of these people was medicated or hospitalised during their residential treatment.
Dr Miller believes the professionally designed Wilbur ambiance and pristine environment, combined with the therapeutic qualities of the mineral hot springs, were significant to his 86 per cent two-year success rate.
Alison Morgan, director of Relauncher, will discuss business planning. An online destination for beauty, health, wellbeing and lifestyle, Relauncher is a reflection of Alison’s lifelong passion for these genres.
Business and marketing coaching for small businesses in the health and wellness industry is Alison’s speciality and she regularly hosts industry networking and social events.
