For quite some time now we’ve seen hairdressers learning makeup skills to enhance their service offering and give their clients that polished finish.
Now, with more salons multi-tasking in hair, makeup, nails and tanning, it’s makeup artists and beauty therapists who are looking to turn their hands to hair styling and finishing.
We have about a dozen makeup artists currently enrolled in the certificate course. They can study from home and flexibly in the evenings over a six-month period while they continue working.
Makeup artists with styling skills can branch out into events such as fashion festivals and trade shows. Beauty therapists gain knowledge of finishing products as well as skills like blow wave techniques, to properly finish off the service they’ve provided.
A small day spa or beauty salon doesn’t need an elaborate hair station. The key requirements are a power point, a mirror, adequate light, a blow dryer, heated rollers, brushes, a design comb, clips and finishing products.
I would recommend a portable station with a mirror, in-built lighting and storage space that can be wheeled out of the way when it’s not in use would best suit those with limited space, but it’s certainly worth investigating options that will suit both hair and makeup to ensure you’re getting the most productive use out of the work area.
