The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ASDC) recently concluded its highly anticipated annual event, SKINCON 2023. The conference, held at the prestigious Rydges Hotel in Melbourne CBD, was dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and professional growth within the field of dermal care, and showcased a diverse agenda of sessions, workshops, and presentations over the course of three insightful days.
Kicking off with a breakfast workshop with Dermocosmetica, SKINCON set the tone for the conference by emphasising the importance of innovation, collaboration, and evidence-based practices in the realm of dermal care. Throughout the event, attendees were treated to a series of thought-provoking sessions led by industry experts, covering topics ranging from advanced skincare techniques to the latest developments in dermatological research, alongside allied health and wound management.
One of the focal points of SKINCON 2023 was the exploration of cutting-edge technologies in the dermal sector. Clinicians and researchers engaged in discussions about the role of artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and other technological advancements in enhancing patient outcomes and streamlining clinical processes, such as skin cancer screening and triaging.
The conference also dedicated ample time to addressing the challenges and opportunities posed by the rapidly evolving landscape of digital healthcare, including methods of standardising clinical photography, led by Woodrow Wilson, Founder of Clinical Imaging.
Collaboration emerged as a recurring theme during SkinCon 2023, as professionals from various disciplines within dermal care converged to share insights and experiences. Dermal Therapist James Vivian shared his expertise on the importance of connection in client consultations, alongside the collaboration in inter-professional practice with Plastic Surgeon Dr Frank Lin and Dermal Clinician Samantha Allen.
The conference not only showcased the latest advancements and research in dermal care but also reinforced the pivotal role of the ASDC in aiding in professional growth, collaboration, and innovation within the field. Leading Dermoscopy education provider HealthCert contributed to this by awarding a scholarship for a professional certificate in Dermoscopy to Dermal Clinician Tonaya Barton, from Hüd Skin & Body in Melbourne’s East.
SKINCON 2023 undeniably left its mark as a premier platform for dermal clinicians to come together, learn from each other, and collectively shape the future of dermal care. With its engaging agenda, emphasis on collaboration, and commitment to elevating standards, the conference proved once again why the ASDC remains a cornerstone of excellence in the realm of dermal health.
