The Black Skin Directory Is Teaching Professionals How To Treat Skin Of Colour

The new online course covers essential skin and aesthetics topics to educate and empower industry professionals.

UK-based platform The Black Skin Directory has announced a new educational course called “A Practical Guide to Treating Skin of Colour” which aims to give beauty and spa professionals more insight into treating skin of colour and common concerns.

The program spans 33 sessions and will cover a range of essential topics including anatomy and physiology of skin colour, cultural considerations, common skin concerns and choosing the right ingredients and treatments. Online learning modules will be accompanied by a library of peer reviewed articles, up-to-date industry news and resources to give users the most in-depth learning experience available.

Dija Ayodele, Black Skin Directory founder and author of Black Skin: The Definitive Skincare Guide, believes this education is essential for all beauty and aesthetic professionals. She founded the directory after spotting a gap in the provision of skin care information and services for Black women — a gap which the Black Skin Directory has helped to minimise.

“Since its launch in February 2018, we have been aware of the distinct lack of education provided by the formal education sector around skin of colour, and after two years of hosting sold-out workshops, we are thrilled to provide permanent online access to therapists and beauty professionals to further their knowledge, build their confidence, and empower them to meet the needs of their skin of colour clients,” says Ayodele.

The course is set to launch on March 1 2022. It is aimed at skin and beauty therapists with a UK Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Participants can expect to complete the course in as little as 1–2 days, finishing with an enhanced knowledge of managing skin of colour and common concerns, and feeling empowered to confidently treat a more diverse patient base.

Course registrations are now open, with the platform offering an early bird fee of £179 (approximately $390 AUD) with the normal price of £295 (approximately $559 AUD) applicable from March 1 2022.
