“Beauty triggered in a heartbeat”, the new-to-Australia Byonik rejuvenation system is a pulse-triggered laser that repairs skin at a cellular level and locks in at the same time hydration with three-phase hyaluronic acid gels embedded with antioxidants.
Imported from Germany by Sydney cosmetic physician Dr Cosima Karlburger and her business partner and husband Phillip Willmann, CEO of Beauty Technology, the system harnesses red (658nm) and near-infrared (806nm) light (see breakout below for benefits of each) for a non-invasive, painless – indeed, relaxing – anti-ageing experience.
“In my years as a cosmetic physician I have experienced all kinds of skin rejuvenation treatments myself that effectively damage the skin to achieve the desired results,” Dr Cosima says.
“While these treatments – for instance, ablative lasers, micro-needling, microdermabrasion, strong chemical peels – can have wonderful short term results, in the long run they can also weaken the skin and leave it more prone to accelerated ageing and damage from stress and environmental influences.
“I have seen in patients who come to me the cumulative adverse longterm effects such treatments can have.
“Phillip and I spent a great deal of time looking for a system we could offer our patients that would heal and nurture the skin while at the same time provide significant corrective and anti-ageing results.
“We happened on Byonik during a trip to Germany and knew it was The One. We have been using it in clinic [they recently opened a new medispa, Dr Cosima, in Sydney’s Edgecliff] for about a year and we are seeing some incredible results. Our patients are rapt and they keep coming back for more – and referring their friends.
“We have taken things slowly with Byonik so as to steadily build its credibility among our own patients. This way we can show prospective buyers a proven track record of results and patient satisfaction.”
Byonik rejuvenates and detoxifies epidermal cells without any form of damage, preserving the telomeres.
The treatment is non-ablative and generates no heat, so there is no downtime (such as redness or peeling), pain or risk of injuring a patient/client.
The laser light is applied approximately 3 x 5 minutes (3 x 7minutes for Asian skin types).
The laser adapts its frequency to the patient’s pulse during the entire treatment. With every beat of the heart if releases energy into the skin.
This allows the antioxidants in the HA gel to enter directly into the skin cells.
The combined release of red and near-infrared light ensures that the energy is transferred to all layers of the skin simultaneously.
Hyaluronic acid gels carrying antioxidants are applied and massaged into the epidermis between each laser session (this editor recently had a Byonik treatment and can only describe it as an hour of pure bliss).
Byonik’s hyaluronic acid molecules are grown (not micronised or cut) to the perfect size so that they are able to penetrate through the epidermis down to the basement membrane.
The HAs are stabilised with Wakame algae (also a natural tyrosinase – melanin – inhibitor) to prevent breakdown by the skin’s own hyaluronidase for a minimum of two weeks. They work as a space keeper so that the skin cells can be supplied with nutrients and hydration.
The pulse-triggered laser light pushes the antioxidants that have been massaged into the intercellular matrix directly into the keratinocytes via light induced transmembrane convection.
Results are immediately visible after the first treatment with the skin looking significantly brighter and plumper (as this editor can attest. Further, I found areas of puffiness were drastically reduced, meaning features such as my upper eyelids looked noticeably lifted and thus my eyes more “open”).
As well as improving skin texture, lifting the appearance of facial features (also neck, décolletage and hands), and helping to reduce lines and wrinkles, Byonik is highly effective for treating conditions such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, diffuse redness, dermatitis and psoriasis.
Complete skin rejuvenation/corrective improvements come in gradual stages over a course of 4-6 treatments spaced about a week apart. To maintain results top-ups are recommended every month or so.
Byonik can be used in combination with ablative treatments such as fractional laser, ultrasound, radio frequency, needling, microdermabrasion, etc.
The downtime of any ablative treatments can be reduced significantly with Byonik due to its healing properties and HA gel infusion.
Byonik can also be used immediately after dermal filler treatments to accelerate healing, reduce swelling and bruises can be broken down more quickly.
Because it is classed a 3B laser, it can be operated by non-medi aesthetics professionals.
The laser is complemented by a comprehensive skincare range for home use. Hypoallergenic, these products offer specially designed and concentrated active ingredients for every specific skin rejuvenation requirement. Incidentally, the packaging of some of the items is exquisite and worthy of display!
