Sugaring for hair removal treatment has been practised for centuries throughout the Middle East, and the pharaohs of ancient Egypt had their body hair removed using a ball made from sugar, lemon and hot water.
Everything old becomes new again and sugaring has evolved to become “the new wax” of today, using natural, eco-friendly ingredients.
“Sugaring isn’t new to the beauty world, but we take the ancient art into the 21st century,” says Bernadette Soares, creator and managing director of Phâro Sugaring and acknowledged sugaring expert.
The brand has become one of the leading hair removal systems in Australia and New Zealand. Previously available directly from NZ, demand has grown so rapidly here that suppliers have been appointed in each NSW and WA.
Bernadette says sugaring is by far one of the most gentle epilation techniques; a natural alternative to lasers and one that lasts longer than traditional waxing.
A new dimension to this ancient method has been added with the inclusion of a range of natural ingredients like marine ingredients, honey, aloe vera and kiwi fruit to give the product gel properties. This enhances the effectiveness of the product and is aligned with modern hygiene standards and application techniques.
Proponents claim the discomfort from sugaring is up to 70% less than waxing and leaves the skin soft, clean and smooth, without irritation and redness.
“Like wax, sugaring removes hair from the roots,” says Bernadette. “However the big difference is that wax adheres to skin and pulls it when you are removing the hair.
“Sugar adheres strongly to the hair and not the underlying skin, so the discomfort when removing it is significantly less than waxing.
“This results in significantly less stress on the skin (that results in redness) and also minimal, if any, unsightly and often painful ingrown hair issues that often arise post-waxing.”
The Phâro Sugaring range claims to have the most cost effective and comprehensive range of products that make it a complete hair removal solution for therapists.
“Therapists love the fact that Phâro is a true sugaring gel available in pots and in an easy-to-apply cartridge system,” adds Bernadette.
“It allows therapists to leverage off their waxing training and use all the acknowledged benefits of sugaring without the messiness of wax and hassle of the old ball method.”
