CIDESCO To Inspire Global Sustainability Change

Could this new initiative change the global beauty landscape for the better?

CIDESCO has embarked on a new sustainability initiative for its members, students and schools that has the potential to inspire global change when it comes to environmentally friendly operations.

Founded in 1946 in Brussels with its Head Office in Zurich, Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie (CIDESCO) is arguably the world standard for beauty and spa therapy, with its membership open to schools, colleges, beauty salons, spas and students around the world. Represented in over 40 countries across five continents, members receive a superior level of training that culminates in the CIDESCO Diploma qualification, which is globally recognised.

This means that the new sustainability initiative is not only far-reaching, but will teach the next generation of beauty therapists worldwide that sustainable spa and salon practices are of the utmost importance in our industry, and should be incorporated into every business.

The initiative includes a six-step program that includes:

  • Waste reduction
  • Recycling
  • Avoidance of pollutants
  • Staff training on sustainability issues
  • Sourcing suppliers who support the initiative
  • Water conservation

The guidelines, which offer advice and tips regarding the above six areas, focus on providing environmentally friendly alternatives and small changes that therapists and businesses can make.

“As a global enterprise with representation in more than 40 countries, our members can really make a difference when they come together to support such an important issue,” says CIDESCO International president Anna-Cari Gund. “Operating sustainably needs to be built into all our working practices, wherever we might be based, and having guidelines to follow makes it easier and achievable. We encourage our members to share their sustainability stories to encourage others and support this further through our marketing and social channels.”
