Jessica Frost The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ASDC) has created an exciting new way to recognise the work of Dermal Therapists and Dermal Clinicians.
To coincide with its 21st birthday this year, the ASDC are bringing focus to the extensive skillset of formally-qualified Dermal Therapists and Dermal Clinicians with a day dedicated just to them. October 1st, 2021 will mark the official launch of what the ASDC hopes will become an annual industry tradition helping to recognise and reward members of the industry.
The special celebration aims to bring light to the extensive studies that Dermal Therapists and Clinicians undertake in order to receive their qualifications and the valued knowledge they offer in compliment to other allied health professionals.
In their announcing statement, the ASDC said, “There are endless career opportunities and niche segments of the industry where Dermal Therapists & Clinicians can thrive in, and yet often these skills can be underestimated, and the extent of studies and knowledge imparted on dermal graduates remains a mystery to a large portion of the industry.
“We wanted to use this opportunity to spread some much-needed awareness around the various capabilities, career opportunities, and unique facets of dermal practitioners throughout Australia, in an effort to encourage more practitioners into the field of Dermal Therapies and provide some clarification on what it means to be a Dermal Clinician.”
What Is A Dermal Therapist/Clinician?
To be eligible to use the title “Dermal Clinician”, practitioners have graduated from an endorsed Bachelor degree. Currently, the ASDC recognises the following programs:
- Bachelor of Dermal Science Victoria University
- Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Dermal Therapies), *superseded Victoria University
- Bachelor of Health Science (Dermal Therapies) *superseded Victoria University
- Bachelor of Health Science (Aesthetics) Torrens University
- Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Clinical Aesthetics) Australasian College of Health and Wellness
- Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Clinical Aesthetics) Australian Dermal Science Institute
To be eligible to use the title “Dermal Therapist”, practitioners have graduated from an endorsed vocational or undergraduate/postgraduate program. Currently, the ASDC recognises the following programs:
- Associate Degree in Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy) Australasian College of Health and Wellness
- Graduate Diploma in Cosmetic Nursing and Injectables (52852WA) AACDS and Gray Clay
- Graduate Certificate in IPL and Laser Hair Reduction (SIB70110)
- Graduate Diploma of Dermal Science (52854WA) AACDS and Gray Clay
- Advanced Diploma of Dermal Science (52850WA) AACDS and Gray Clay
How can you get involved?
How you and your team choose to celebrate is entirely up to you! Maybe it’s a group activity like Pilates or a coastal walk, an art workshop or cooking class you treat your team to. It can be as simple as sharing a celebratory bottle of champagne after work. However you choose to celebrate, the ASDC is encouraging you to take to social media to shout out the Dermal Therapists and Clinicians on your team and take some extra time on October 1st to recognise their work.
