The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians (ASDC) delivered their inaugural SkinCon with a first-time hybrid delivery of the 2-day event, held live in Fitzroy (Melbourne) and delivered virtually across Australia. The return of the event since a two-year pause from lockdowns also celebrated the association’s 21st birthday, in which the events team ensured this event was just as celebratory as it was engaging and informative.
The conference held a plethora of interactive and collaborative case-based workshops, scientific presentations, alongside networking opportunities during both the intermissions and cocktail drinks following day one – filled with delicious food and refreshments.
Day one of SkinCon hosted a scientific plenary filled with educational presentations from all professional backgrounds within the dermal and cosmetic dermatology sector, alongside topics from plastic surgery, allied health and professional business development. The scientific plenary presentations were led by familiar industry professionals such as Prof. Greg Goodman (Dermatology Institute of Victoria, Script Skincare), Dr Naveen Somia (FRACS, Previous President of ASAPS), and Chiza Westcarr (Florabiome) to name only a few.
Day two consisted of a breakfast workshop hosted by Dermocosmetica, discussing the newly released bio-remodelling injectable and its integration into skin management. The remainder of the day was spent in group workshops analysing case studies, which expanded on the recently developed Standards of Practice from the ASDC, delivered by President Chairperson Jennifer Byrne.
Industry updates were also delivered during the event, such as work that the ASDC is currently undertaking to protect professional titles, member benefits for 2023, and future proposed changes to the ASDC in preparation for aimed self-regulation and registration of dermal health professionals.
Alongside knowledge, door prizes and goodie bags were also gifted to delegates, with awards also prized to those who successfully won the ‘escape room’, which included skincare, clinic accessories, and a complementary ticket to 2023 SkinCon.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with planning for future events already underway. SPA+CLINIC caught up with ASDC President Jennifer Byrne shortly after the event to discuss future plans for SkinCon.
