Over the last three days, the Non-Surgical Symposium 2024 took place on the Gold Coast and attracted more than 1,200 people from the aesthetics industry including delegates, speakers, and exhibitors. The theme of this year was ‘Ethical and Evidence-based Good Practice‘, with most presentations referencing the ‘elephant in the room’, the new AHPRA and TGA guidelines that have clearly caused a lot of confusion among practitioners.
The program started with a range of international speakers talking about the art of consultation, now more important than ever, and how the right consultation techniques not only keep you and the patient safe, but also create long-lasting relationships with patients who are much more likely to come back for more treatments.
The program ended with honest and raw talks about unethical and misleading advertising as well as clarification on the new guidelines imposed by AHPRA and the TGA. In between all the talk about these new rules, there were of course topics on injecting, laser treatments, body treatments, skincare, and business coaching sessions, offering something for everyone.
Sponsors of NSS impressed with bigger and better exhibition stands than ever before, often including coffee carts, refreshments, or even ice cream to ‘lure’ delegates in. We highly enjoyed talking to plenty of brands about what’s new and what they can offer this industry that never stops evolving. Read more about our learnings in our August issue.
The social events at NSS never disappoint with people excited to catch up over Welcome Drinks on Friday night, but the really fun bit was saved for Saturday night when the NSS invited delegates to a ‘Night of Fashion’, a Met Gala themed dinner party. Everyone donned their most fashionable outfits that would make Anna Wintour proud and struck a pose for the 360 camera, before dancing the night away.
We noticed that almost all presentations this year had a large audience – something that isn’t always guaranteed when there is so much on offer – which shows the hunger for information and desire to keep learning. And that is exactly what the NSS is all about: innovation, education, patient safety.
