Jessica Turner Never mind that this season of The Voice is nearly over. A new competition is fast approaching! And if you thought reality TV was a little on the fictitious side, get an eye-full of this fantasy fuelled ‘talon quest.’
Run, don’t walk—Registration for Nailympia Australia 2016 is now open!
Nailympia, (born in London), is a panel-judged competition for nail artists of all levels. It will be held at Beauty Expo Sydney, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of August.
The final list of judges is yet to be released but it boasts big names and internationally acclaimed artists such as Elaine Watson from the US, and Marian Newman from the UK!
Whether you’re a play-it-safe perfectionist, or known for nailing downright nutty creations, there’s plenty of categories to choose from and one is guaranteed to suit your special talent.
Now, time to buff up on the categories…
1. SOAK-OFF GEL MANICURE: Done on natural nails. One hand has to be finished a solid red colour. One hand has to be finished in a traditional French manicure style.
Hot Tip: Choose a shade of red that complements your models’ skin tone. Check the vast realm of reds here!
2. LIQUID & POWDER ACRYLIC SCULPTURE: French style pink & white nails.
Hot Tip: Sure. They can be reality defying in length, but consider cultivating the ‘can’t tell if they’re real or not’ look and keep the shape natural.
3. SALON NAILS: Choose between one L&P acrylic, UV hard gel, fibreglass, then shape, style and lengthen the nails accordingly.
Hot Tip: Beat the clock with the fast-drying Phenom range by Jessica.
4. REALITY NAIL ART: Flat art or embellishments with rhinestones. Each competitor will be supplied with 3 full cover nail tips.
Hot Tip: psych out the competition with neon psychedelic shades. Yeah baby!
5. STILETTO: Nails can be made using Liquid & Powder acrylic or hard gel systems. Paint, stripers, rhinestones and bullion are allowed.
Hot Tip: Think goth-chic, lady vamp. Get dark angel daggers with the incredible range of colours from Jessica Cosmetics.
6. FANTASY NAIL ART: Three dimensional, pre-cast embellishments, feathers, decals, gems, accessories, ornaments or any form of fantasy is allowed.
Hot Tip: The crazier, the better. Absolutely anything goes! If we were entering, we’d be inspired by this Japanese artist!
These 6 categories are judged on the day, but there are other options for people who prefer to send pictures, rather than race the clock.
This competition is fair too. Battle it out with beginners, or level-up with industry leaders. Register in the division best suited to your ability!
DIVISION 1: NOVICE Students and professional nail technicians that have never participated in any type of nail competition anywhere in the world.
DIVISION 2: APPRENTICE Students and professional technicians that have competed but never won a recognised competition anywhere in the world, but have placed up to 2nd position.
DIVISION 3: MASTER Any competitor that has won a world title, placed first in a nail competition of any type or is ranked as a Top Competitor. A master must enter at least three technical competitions. (3d, Flat nail art, Fantasy, do not qualify.)
