“Genderless beauty” has surged in popularity in the recent months, especially with male grooming on the rise. Gender fluidity has always been a thing in the fashion industry but we’ve definitely noticed a shift towards the beauty industry with consumer beauty giants such as L’Oreal Paris and Cover Girl (owned by COTY) embracing the trend and starting to release genderless beauty products.
So, what does genderless beauty mean for you?
1. Introduce genderless treatment and services
According to the latest statistics from International Spa Association (ISPA), the male “appearance” market has been growing for over a decade but especially since 2015. Therefore, it is a no brainer to expand your business offerings and start introducing genderless treatments and services to your salon, spa and clinic.
2. Educate your clients
Education is key regardless of whether it is on-trend or not. With the new wave of cosmetic products focusing on performance-packed formulas and neutral packaging in order to stay “gender neutral”, start educating your clients on this.
3. Gender neutral products
As an extension of education, start stocking gender neutral products in your salon, spa or clinic so that your client is able to test it out first hand and learn about the difference (or rather, lack of) between their normal products and genderless products which he/she can share with their partner, housemate or siblings.
