Cosmetic Nurses from across the country came together this past weekend for the Merz Aesthetics Nurse Academy, hosted by Jeannine Hill, the Associate Vice President of Merz Aesthetics ANZ. The day began with a welcome from Jeannine, followed by an introduction to the day’s MC, Dr Phil Artemi.
The first speaker was pharmaceutical market researcher Sally Hogbin, who spoke about why patients leave clinics. Her recent survey results indicated that patients’ most common reason for leaving clinics was because their anti-wrinkle treatment results didn’t last as long as they had hoped or required more product to achieve their desired results. The survey also concluded that most patients left their current clinic without notifying the injector or clinic of their dissatisfaction.
Next we spoke about confidence in business with David Segal, covering everything from the economy through to patient expectations and competition. David shared the current trends he has noticed, including a reduction in volumising fillers, with movement towards collagen stimulation and improved skin quality. While chain clinics continue to commoditise the industry, they are losing experienced and skilled injectors who are choosing to ‘go solo’ with their own businesses, David said.
Dr Phil Artemi took us through what constitutes good skin quality; what might seem like a simple question had many components including Skin Clarity, Firmness, Tone and Glow. We also discovered what may quickly become our new latest obsession, the Glossymeter: a device designed to measure the glow of the skin!
Plastic Surgeon Dr Frank Lin took us through his use of Ultherapy and Radiesse to create an ideal foundation.
Brandy Wehinger joined us from New Zealand to cover the importance of consultations, and what needs to be delivered during these appointments: a listening ear, friendly advice, education on treatment options, an opportunity to build rapport, the creation of a treatment plan and an open conversation about costs.
The remainder of the day covered a wide variety of topics including Full Face Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers, Novel uses of Anti-Wrinkle in aesthetics and the treatment of the Asian Facial Profiles with injectables.
We can’t wait for the annual event to come around again in 2024!
