Elisa Osmo has been deeply involved in the skincare industry for over eight years, during which she’s had the opportunity to work alongside top professionals, including well-known doctors and surgeons. She’s refined her skills in esteemed establishments like Endota Spa, Melanie Grant, and Face Plus Medispa, and has recently opened her own medispa, Glow Medispa.
From her varied experience within the skincare industry, Elisa knew it was time for her to venture into her own practice, taking on new opportunities whilst also new challenges.
We speak to Elisa to learn more about her solo-venture as a business owner, including the steps she took to make it happen.
Elisa, can you walk us through the process of going out on your own?
I spent quite some time gaining experience in various establishments, acquainting myself with industry practices, and optimising treatments for both myself and my clientele. It was crucial for me to develop proficiency in facial treatments, massage techniques, and addressing diverse skin concerns.
Once I was confident in my skills and had a clear vision for what I could bring to the industry, I started brainstorming ideas for my own space. I knew I wanted to create an environment where people could come to relax and receive high-quality skincare treatments, so I began searching for the ideal location.
Finding the right location took some time, but eventually, I found a space that felt just right and provided positive energy.
From there, my focus shifted to establishing connections with the best skincare brands and selecting suitable devices to incorporate into my practice.
Now that Glow Medispa is up and running, I’ve focused my attention on building strong relationships with my clients to ensure they are provided with an excellent experience. After all the ups and downs, witnessing the smiles on my clients’ faces makes every bit of the journey worth it.
How did you know it was the right time?
While I had dedicated significant time to accumulating experience across various clinics, absorbing knowledge, and honing my skills while carefully considering the direction of my own business, the tipping point for me was when I began to feel assured in my abilities and developed a clear vision of what I could offer.
Building a diverse client base and receiving positive feedback, further bolstered my confidence, reaffirming my decision to pursue this path.
Ultimately, I relied on my intuition and took the leap, a decision I’m immensely grateful for. The journey so far has been incredibly rewarding, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunities that lie ahead.
What challenges did you face?
There were plenty of hurdles along the way, but I always saw them as just another part of the adventure.
One of the biggest challenges was finding the right location for my business. It took time searching and weighing up different options before I found a space that felt just right.
Once I had my clinic up and running, another challenge was building up my new client base.
And of course, there have been the usual ups and downs that come with running your own business such as fluctuations in client demand and unforeseen expenses.
Overall, I think facing these challenges head-on has made me stronger and more resilient as a business owner. It wouldn’t be half as rewarding if the journey was too easy!
What would be your advice to those looking to do the same?
My advice to anyone thinking about starting their own business in the skincare industry would be to first attain as much experience as you can, such as working in different clinics and learning from various professionals.
Once you feel confident in your skills and have a clear vision of what you want to offer, don’t be afraid to take the leap! It can be daunting, but when you’re passionate about what you do, it will all be worth it in the end.
Another tip – never stop learning! The skincare industry is always evolving, so it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and techniques. Keep investing in yourself and your skills, and you’ll go far.
